This Wednesday, January 8th, marks the 90th birthday of the King, Elvis Presley. While the world continues to celebrate his enduring legacy through music, movies, and memorabilia, his impact reverberates most profoundly through his family – his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Graceland will be alive with the spirit of Elvis, hosting three days of concerts to commemorate this milestone to adoring pilgrims. This week also provides an opportune moment to recap my recent exploration of the Presley family through biography and astrology, specifically focusing on his granddaughter.
In my previous article titled The Astrology of the New Queen of Graceland, I delved into the astrology of Riley Keough and the Presley family lineage. As an actress and emerging filmmaker, Keough is poised to carry on the Presley legacy in a powerful way as we move into 2025. Her role as co-author of her mother Lisa Marie Presley's memoir, published following Lisa Marie's passing, and her appointment as trustee of the Presley estate for her teenage half-sisters, Harper and Finley Lockwood, further solidify her position within the family's legacy as the new queen.
One fascinating observation from this study was the strikingly short astrological adolescent periods for Elvis, Lisa Marie, and Ben Presley, who each struggled tragically with addiction. Meanwhile, Riley, Harper, and Finley who all experienced longer adolescent periods, carry the Presley legacy forward having avoided this dangerous pitfall. It’s also interesting that Riley and Elvis have nearly the same rising degree, with Elvis at 12, and Riley at 13 degrees Sagittarius, if birth times are accurate. Many interesting alignments exist between Ben and Riley, as well.
While Elvis' astrology has already been extensively analyzed by many astrologers, we can at least briefly highlight his 12 degrees Sagittarius rising, ruled by Jupiter in Scorpio, which is often cited as the source of his magnetic sex appeal, and Neptune in Virgo often linked to his battles with addiction. Many famous singers also have strong third house planets, and his Saturn in rulership placed in his third house also reflects that.
Much more has been said by many others about his biography, so instead of adding to that, I propose a look at his solar return for this 90th year to see how Elvis still influences us today.
Transiting Pluto sits at 1 Aquarius conjunct Elvis’ natal North Node at 1 degree and Venus at 29 Capricorn, all this while transiting Mars at 29 Cancer is retrograde moving back to his natal Pluto at 25 Cancer. This arrangement makes me think about the massive generational differences between Elvis’ first audiences of young women who experienced his performances and and the audiences of popular music today, like the fans of Taylor Swift, many of whom were born with Pluto in Sagittarius or Capricorn.
Would today’s audiences of young women look past their idol’s relationship with a fourteen year old girl if Elvis were to come on the music scene today? That seems unlikely. To be fair, women in the 1950’s and 60’s were so repressed that Elvis’ presence, dancing and lyrics served a welcomed pressure valve for all of that pent up energy. Over the ensuing decades, from the disco scene in the 70’s to heavy metal, punk, grunge, gangsta rap and more, many more pressure valve-performers followed. But, are there any musical artists with as much mass appeal today who truly “shock” us the way that Elvis did? I think he may have been the first musical performer to really push our boundaries like that, and who also had such incredible mass appeal.
Transiting Neptune on his 90th Solar Return is on the cusp of Elvis’ 4th house with the transiting node poised to move back into Pisces. Ultimately, the collective fascination with Elvis reveals to us the enduring hold that his image and our idealized fantasies of him continue to have on our collective consciousness.
